A love for sculptural art

We are Laoru Laoru, a ceramic sculpture studio based in Aarhus, Denmark. We started this because we genuinely believe that sculptural art belongs in real homes, not just galleries.

Our sculptural objects are inspired by the ancient Greek sculptural tradition and shaped by the quiet, restrained sensibility of Scandinavia. Together, those two forces shape our ceramic sculptural universe that feels both timeless and entirely of today.

Mastering a craft

Jacob Laoru

Creative journey

The path wasn't always clear but it never changed his direction. He has worked with clay for two decades, steadily developing his craft, sculpting in the family apartment, becoming the artist he always intended to be.

Sculptural Art

He fell in love with sculpting at seventeen, when he built a life-sized human figure from surplus clay for his school graduation project. Since then he knew he wanted to work with sculptures and clay became his expression.

Ancient Inspiration

For Jacob, the ancient Greek sculptural tradition still represents the highest standard the art form has ever reached. Not a template to copy, but an inexhaustible reference point for what mastery in clay can look like.

Craftsmanship

He prefers to think of himself more as a craftsman. What drives him every day is not the finished piece but the pursuit itself - the desire to understand the material more deeply and keep getting better.

Psychology

Studying psychology deepened a fascination he had carried for years: the human face as the place where we read each other most completely, where identity, emotion, and time all become visible at once.

Art Director

Katrine Laoru

Every creative decision she makes is driven by the conviction that the spaces we live in shape how we feel, and that beauty in a home is never trivial.

Interior Design

Katrine trained as an interior design consultant and spent years working in design shops, helping people make considered choices about their homes. Her aesthetic is rooted in the Nordic interior tradition and a genuine commitment to sustainability, and that sensibility lives in everything she does.

Brand Visual

Every image, every composition, every detail of how the pieces look in the world passes through Katrine's eye. She has shaped Laoru Laoru's visual language into something immediately recognisable, in the way a piece is styled, the surfaces it is shot against, the light it is given.

Social Media

Katrine had already built her own engaged audience around interior design and considered living before she stepped into Laoru Laoru full-time in 2024. She natively understood how to present the work on a social media platform, not just as sculptural pieces, but as conscious design choices that quietly enhance the presence of a room. For Katrine, Instagram is not an afterthought. It is one of the most important places the work lives.
